The body of a woman who was reported missing was found in the Susquehanna River.The Lancaster County Coroner identified the woman as 33-year-old April Wefler, who lived on the 100 block of South Queen Street in Lancaster City.The County said Wefler worked at the County Government Center for the Elections Office three blocks away.Police said she often walked places because she didn't have a car, a clue they are using in their investigation.West Hempfield Township police were called to Susquehanna Friday afternoon for a river rescue of a person in the water between the Route 30 bridge and the Route 462 bridge. But crews said the woman was dead when they reached her."There's no vehicle involved, so we're looking for where this would have started and her whereabouts prior to her entering the river,” said Chief Jason Jay, of the West Hempfield Township Police Department.Social media posts say Wefler was last seen on Tuesday, information detectives say helped give them a starting point. Police said the coroner’s office estimated the body was in the water for less than 48 hours. The coroner had to use dental records to ID Wefler because police say there was no identification found on her body. "There was nothing suspicious, no outward signs of foul play or trauma,” said Jay. The county says Wefler worked there for six years as a poll worker coordinator. Poll worker training scheduled for Monday and Tuesday was canceled. "It's tragic anytime we have a situation like this. Especially with the warmer months coming, we encourage everyone to be safe on the water. Wear your life jackets, don't get in beyond your level of skill as far as swimming or currents go. Just be safe,” said Jay.The coroner determined Wefler died from drowning, but did not say whether the drowning was accidental or criminal.
